At Château Malou
Be art hunters
It must be said that Mon De Rijck, director-animator of the artwork lending gallery at Château Malou in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, has more than one trick up his sleeve. This sculptor, born in Ninove in 1934, who directed the National Foundry before setting up his own foundry placed at artists' disposal, was the inspirer and organiser of happenings and exhibitions as lively as the "Truc-Troc", "5,000 - 5,000", the "Labyrinth of Mirrors" and "L'anti-antipeinture".
Today, with an "Artistic Safari" for which he enjoyed the collaboration of the Central Africa Museum, he is once again bringing life to the walls and spaces of Château Malou.
To describe the setting created is to picture the bush and the tropical forest, the obligatory paths for all visitors who want to discover the some two hundred works (drawings, engravings, lithographs, silkscreens, oils, etc.) belonging to some two hundred artists gathered in the rooms.
Note that not a single work exceeds 7,000 francs - which is more than reasonable - especially as one finds, side by side, people like Arty, Delcol, De Taye, De Villers, Dubray, Gheyssen, Grosemans, Lambillotte, Lipit, Mahy, Marti, Mondry, Perin, Rolet, Soos, Strebelle, Tarasovici, Toledo, Van Gindertael, Verheyden, Vinche, Zimmerman and how many others who should be named, our list being given merely as bait.
Through judicious staging, the would-be spectator, decked out in a red terracotta explorer's helmet, is conditioned. In semi-darkness, he sinks into mysterious lands populated by wild animals and... suddenly... bang... bang... he emerges onto the finest prey: the painted works, and so he can aim his shot and return covered in glory from his Christmas and New Year "safari". - A.V.
