After a year at the Antwerp Academy, followed by a three-year course in fashion design at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels and two years at the Nebeling Academy in Brussels, Joan De Rijck was hired by several Belgian companies as a stylist: trend research, model design, colour-range research and production follow-up. In 1998, she won the ModoBruxellae stylists' track 'public prize'. She developed her own label 'joan de rijk', a collection of knitted accessories for women, men and children. In 2015, she opened Les Brusseloises, a boutique dedicated to Belgian design, together with her brother Carl De Moncharline, in the Sablon district of Brussels.
