At Roller Skating Day, anyone can roll! BRUSSELS Have you always dreamed of getting on four wheels with the ease and style of tanned, muscular Californians roller-skating in 'Baywatch'? Your chance has arrived! This Sunday, May 22, the Roller Skating Day will take place in Brussels, aiming to get you hooked on roller skating with free initiations and impressive demonstrations. This time, you'll have no more excuses: whoever wants to learn roller skating, can! For its second edition, the Roller Skating Day will be held at the Bois de la Cambre in Brussels, this Sunday, May 22, starting at 10 am. This day aims to introduce a wide audience to the multiple facets of roller skating: a healthy outdoor leisure activity for good weather, an ecological and alternative mode of transport (introduced into the Road Code in January 2004), or a sport with increasingly varied disciplines. Bring your old skates back to life For the nostalgic who have kept their old roller skates and would like to take the opportunity to bring them out of the closet, a repair and renovation stand will be available. Your bearings can be cleaned, oiled, or even replaced, your screws tightened, and your liners dusted. But if you can no longer stand the sight of your skates or if your feet have grown in the last five years, then why not exchange your roller skates or sell them for a new (second-hand) pair? A 'Roller Skate Exchange' will be set up for this purpose. If you still don't own a pair, then fall back on the rental service which will provide you with one at a democratic price. Roller fever is in you! After benefiting from a free initiation, perhaps you'll catch the roller skating bug. That's all the organizers wish for you. One thing is certain, the target audience is as broad as the offer: families, athletes, aficionados, and curious people from all over the country are warmly invited to the event. The program includes courses for beginners, braking courses, courses for young children, but also demonstrations and initiations of roller-hockey, roller-basketball, roller-soccer, slalom, jumps, or even disco-roller. An European initiative Roller skating deserved its day just like cycling or music. This has been done with the Roller Skating Day, which can already be considered the 'European Day for Roller Skating Development' since the initiative is already relayed in France, Holland, Germany, and Spain. The Dutch-speaking part of the country is not forgotten, as a Ghent roller skating school is participating in the event. After a very positive assessment in 2004 (and a stock-out of roller skate rentals), the organizers hope to do even better this year with a greater variety of disciplines presented. On your marks, get set, all to your roller skates! Photo: Advertisement for the 'Roller Skating Day' event, indicating 'free entry' and 'EVERYONE ON ROLLERS'.
