Roller skating fans will be delighted again this year! The Roller Parade will indeed return to the streets of Namur from the end of June. Given the repeated requests and the large number of roller skating enthusiasts, we have decided to extend the scope of the parades until September 15th, explains Frédéric Laloux, alderman for sports. As a reminder, a route of about twenty kilometers (which crosses the Namur pedestrian zone, Jambes, and also La Plante) is organized starting from Place de l'Ange, every Thursday from 7 p.m. You are free to complete it entirely, or to join or leave the parade during a stop, as many parents and their children already do. New for the 2005 edition: a special route, entitled « Noir-Jaune-Rouge » (Black-Yellow-Red), reserved for experienced athletes, will take place on July 21st. The distance to cover will be shorter (16.5 km) but will pass through the citadel... This is obviously a route for the most experienced, adds Carl de Moncharline, initiator of the project. We wanted them to keep an immutable memory of the parade and to be able to take advantage of the magnificent setting of the citadel at the same time. A small downside, however: bicycles will no longer be supervised as in previous editions. We have received no feedback from cycling associations despite our repeated requests, regrets Frédéric Laloux. Bicycles will be able to participate, but outside the parade and the planned supervision, provided, of course, that they have equipment compliant with the Highway Code. From a practical point of view, roller skates can be rented on site. The organizers ask that children be equipped with all protections, while recommending them to adults. It goes without saying that parades will be canceled in case of bad weather, for safety reasons... • M. G. (st.) PRACTICAL INFORMATION When? Every Thursday from June 30th to September 15th. Where?
