Every Tuesday in July and August, the city of Namur will in turn host the "Belgium Rollers Tour". This event offers enthusiasts the chance to discover their city on skates. This is already the case in Brussels, Ghent, Hasselt, Coxy-de, Mons, Liège. In Namur, this Tuesday, from 9 PM, skaters will be able to cover 25 kilometers in the Namur urban area. Departure: Place du Palais de Justice, then direction, Lelièvre and Godefroid streets and finally Place de la Gare where the bus site will be exceptionally open to roller skaters. From there, skaters will take Boulevard Mélot, then once past the tunnel, Avenue de Stassart and the Pont de la Libération by which they can access the Meuse riverbank. "We had suggested to the organizers to use the Ravel, explains police inspector Michel Legrand, but they preferred the Chaussée de Dinant. The surface of the towpath did not offer all the required assurances for roller skating." The major difficulty of the Namur circuit will be crossing the Wépion bridge. "Usually, roller skating enthusiasts like descents followed by ascents, but here, at the same time, it turns. Which makes the maneuver dangerous," emphasizes Christian Battel, Namur coordinator. The route will bring participants back to the starting point via Dave and Jambes. 300 pairs of skates for rent Regarding safety, protections will be mandatory for children and recommended for adults. Breaks are planned. An opportunity for these athletes to catch a glimpse of "Namur by night". In case of rain, the organizers will cancel the ride. The new team of 10 "rollers-cops" from the Namur police will provide supervision. They will be supported by motorcyclists and bicycle police officers. In practice, participants will go, from 8 PM, to Place du Palais de Justice. Some 300 pairs of skates can be rented on site. No reservation is necessary. In case of cancellation, it is possible to receive an SMS on your mobile phone. The city and the Namur police see this as a public relations operation. In Brussels, 5,000 people participated in the action. In Namur, for a first edition, expectations are a little more modest. TO NOTE Information: www.belgiumrollers.com.
