LIGNY, LET'S ROLL!
First "roller parade" on Sunday, May 22
Summer is back, and with it the desire to play sports outdoors. And why not rollerblading?
Following what is already happening in the most beautiful cities of the kingdom, the members of the Municipal Children's Council dedicated the beginning of this year to a major project: the organization of a roller parade in the municipality.
To best prepare for this event, a commission composed of Mathilde, Maxime, and Tom met several times, moving step by step in a reflection nourished by the experiences and opinions of various resource persons: Rudy Barbier, head of the sports department at the municipal administration, Éric Vigneron, from Sport Communication, and Mr. Jaumain from the Sombreffe police. The first project was presented in a plenary session of the Municipal Children's Council, and then approved by the College of Aldermen.
In a peloton and with music
The first roller parade will therefore take place on Sunday, May 22, at 2 p.m., at the Ligny Municipal Center. The "riders" will travel, in a peloton and with music, through different streets in the village of Ligny, supervised by a team of experienced staff members as well as by the police who will open and close the procession. The participation fee is one euro.
A refreshment point will be provided in the middle and at the end of the route where drinks and snacks will be distributed.
In case of rain, an activity will be offered in the large hall of the Ligny Municipal Center.
A website (www.rollersombreffe.be) has been created for the occasion to allow registrations.\nThe procession will start from the Ligny Municipal Center towards Rue Haute, Rue Émile Vandervelde, Rue du Grand Central, Rue E. Servais, Rue Mary, Rue du Pinson, Rue Gaie, Avenue du 16 juin 1815, Rue Conrad d'Argenteau, Avenue Reine Fabiola, Rue G. Robert, Rue Tigrée, Rue des Généraux Gérard et Vandamme, Place de Ligny, Ruelle du Curé, Rue du Sud, Rue de la Tombe, returning via Rue de la Tombe then Rue du Pirou. That's nearly five kilometers in total!
The initiative is open to everyone who can skate... meaning having mastered braking and turning. Initiation provided indoors for beginners. Mandatory protections. Have fun!
