    A Kaleidoscope of a Career

Nothing in his beginnings pointed to nightlife. Trained as an industrial chemistry technician, Jean-Pierre Mels worked in the laboratories of the Fabelta factory in Tubize and at the Tivoli hospital in La Louvière, then spent time on the car assembly line in Seneffe, before working independently in the textile trade between Milan, Paris and Brussels.

He then spent a first ten-year career at the Belgian postal service: counter clerk in La Louvière, then in the international affairs department of the general administration in Brussels. It was that versatility, not any nightlife credential, that led him to the management of the Mirano Continental.

An archive press article, whose newspaper and date were not preserved, sums up that path in one apt phrase: “his life looks like a kaleidoscope”. For Carl De Moncharline it is also a lesson in the trade: you can enter nightlife through the side door, provided you bring a real skill with you.
