Father of nine children, Mon De Rijck would sometimes turn his barge - his home and studio sailing the canals of Belgium - into an exhibition gallery. His monumental white sculptures were presented in the fitted-out hold, alongside gouaches hung on the dark walls.

In 1978, Mon De Rijck's barge was at once home, studio and exhibition space. This series of polaroids captures relaxed moments between family and friends: shared meals, children and babies, informal portraits amid the works.

Die Lastkahnjahre - Fotoalbum: am Wasser (späte 70er, frühe 80er)
From the late 70s to the early 80s, Mon De Rijck's barge carried on its life as a home, studio and floating gallery on the canals. This album gathers atmosphere photographs taken along the water: the hull moored beneath the trees, the quays, the bridges passed under, the banks at sunset.
