Nach einem Jahr an der Antwerpener Akademie, gefolgt von einem dreijährigen Kurs in Modedesign am Institut Saint-Luc in Brüssel und zwei Jahren an der Nebeling Academy in Brüssel, wurde Joan De Rijck von mehreren belgischen Unternehmen als Stylistin eingestellt: Trendforschung, Modellentwicklung, Farbpalettenforschung und Produktionsüberwachung. 1998 gewann sie den «Publikumspreis» des ModoBruxellae Stylistenwettbewerbs. Sie entwickelte ihr eigenes Label «joan de rijk», eine Kollektion von Strickaccessoires für Damen, Herren und Kinder. Im Jahr 2015 eröffnete sie zusammen mit ihrem Bruder Carl De Moncharline «Les Brusseloises», eine Boutique für belgisches Design, im Sablon-Viertel in Brüssel.
