    混凝土上的色彩

Mural, "Itinéraire secret d'un point de couleur à travers l'espace" (Secret itinerary of a dot of colour through space), 1978, acrylic on concrete, about 102 sq m, Louvain-en-Woluwe (UCL), Brussels. The work unfolds as a long horizontal band running across the façade and following its structure: the painting does not decorate the wall, it reinterprets its architecture.

The composition sets a night-blue ground, worked in gradations and dry-brushed scumbles, against broad pale areas left in reserve. A large white form, halfway between a bird and a sign, occupies the upper register; a yellow disc punctuates the top left corner; in the lower part, plant silhouettes rendered in negative open an almost dreamlike depth. The title says it: this is the journey of a dot of colour through space, from the minimal sign to monumental scale.

In 2003, Le Soir illustrated its profile of Carl De Moncharline with a photograph taken in front of this building in Louvain-en-Woluwe: "It was she who put colours on the concrete of this building," the caption notes.
