BRUSSEL - Following the success of the Brussels Rollers last summer, the scope of the roller event for inline skaters and roller skaters is expanding this summer to seven cities across Belgium. In addition to the capital, Gent, Koksijde, Hasselt, Namen, Luik, and Bergen are now on the program. The goal of Belgium Rollers, the organizers, is to promote inline skating as a leisure activity, sport, and means of transport. Those who have not yet mastered roller techniques can come to practice every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carrefour des Attelages in Brussel's Ter Kameren Bos. The events themselves are additionally supervised by 'roller cops', police officers from the participating cities. For children, wearing a helmet as well as wrist, elbow, and knee protection is mandatory. They are also strongly recommended for adults. Participation is free.
Program overview with dates and departure locations in July and August. Hasselt, Monday, Kolonel Dusartplein. Namen, Tuesday, Place du Palais de Justice. Gent, Wednesday (except July 23 and 30), Sport- en recreatiepark Blaarmeersen, Zuiderlaan 5. Luik, Thursday, Place Saint-Lambert. Brussel, Friday, Carrefour des Attelages, Ter Kameren Bos. Bergen, Saturday, Grote Markt. Koksijde on July 13 and 20 and August 10 and 24, Zeedijk (Teirlinckplaats). Weather permitting, sports enthusiasts roll along smoothly every time from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
