Brussels Rollers becomes Belgium Rollers

It is an undeniable success. The five outings of Brussels Rollers 2002 gathered more than 30,000 participants who rediscovered their city on roller skates over the course of last summer. Building on this success, which exceeded their expectations, the organizers have decided to do it again, but on a larger scale. That is why Brussels Rollers is becoming Belgium Rollers this year. In concrete terms, seven Belgian cities will take part in this initiative during the upcoming months of July and August. Every day, from nine o'clock in the evening, a crowd of roller skaters will fill the streets of Hasselt (every Monday), Namur (Tuesdays), Gand (Wednesdays, except July 23 and 30), Liège (Thursdays), Bruxelles (Fridays), Mons (Saturdays), and Coxyde (July 20 and August 24). As for those who want to learn, they will meet at the school in Bois de La Cambre on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. A major popular and sporting event, supervised by police officers specially trained in roller skating. We can only welcome this initiative and agree with Freddy Thielemans, mayor of Bruxelles, when he states: "This new activity, allowing people to (re)discover our capital in a festive spirit, has exceeded all expectations in terms of attendance, and we are very happy about it."
