Das CyberThéâtre, zehn Jahre voraus

1995, im hundertsten Jahr des Kinos, gründete Eric Vauthier das CyberThéâtre und wandte sich dem digitalen Kino zu, als kaum jemand daran glaubte. Jean-Pierre Mels fungierte dort als Zeremonienmeister: Carl De Moncharline’s beide Mentoren kreuzten dort die Wege, angetrieben von derselben Intuition.

Bereits 2001 sagte er der La Libre Belgique, dass das zweite Jahrhundert des Kinos digital sein würde, dass Filme sich dematerialisieren würden und dass Kreative für den Computerbildschirm anders denken müssten. Eine Zeile aus diesem Interview fasst alles zusammen, was er getan hat: „Interaktivität muss dem Zweck dienen.“ Nie Effekt um des Effektes willen. Immer zuerst die Idee.

RTBF “Midi Première” interview, 28 November 1998 — In the Wednesday multimedia segment of “Midi Première” devoted to music on the Internet, Baptiste Cadieux, head of data transmission at the CyberThéâtre, explains that a simple modem and a multimedia computer are already enough to listen online to music of almost CD quality, through MP3 and RealAudio. The programme then hears from Fabienne Brison, head of commercial affairs at Sabam, and Marc Haymans, president of the IFPI, about copyright and nascent piracy.
