بعد عام في أكاديمية أنتويرب، تلاه دورة مدتها ثلاث سنوات في تصميم الأزياء في معهد سان لوك في بروكسل وعامين في أكاديمية نيبيلينج في بروكسل، تم توظيف جوان دي رايك من قبل العديد من الشركات البلجيكية كمصممة أزياء: بحث الاتجاهات، تصميم النماذج، بحث نطاقات الألوان ومتابعة الإنتاج. في عام 1998، فازت «بجائزة الجمهور» لمسار مصممي الأزياء ModoBruxellae. طورت علامتها التجارية الخاصة «joan de rijk»، وهي مجموعة من الإكسسوارات المحبوكة للنساء والرجال والأطفال. في عام 2015، افتتحت متجر Les Brusseloises، وهو متجر مخصص للتصميم البلجيكي، بالتعاون مع أخيها كارل دي مونشارلين، في حي السابلون ببروكسل.
