Rollerblading gets its own holiday on the calendar

Initiation sessions, jumps, hockey matches, and rides await rollerblading fans on Saturday, April 17, at the Roux sports complex. LAUNCHED in France on the initiative of Worldskaters (a French rollerblading website), the rollerblading festival day is coming to Belgium this year. The idea was widely shared on the forum of the Rouliroula community (a reference site for good rollerblading spots in Belgium and elsewhere), which helped boost the project's organization. Belgian rollerblading stakeholders were contacted, and thus we find Skate for Fun, Ganza Roller, the French-speaking Belgian Skating Federation, Belgium Rollers, and many others among the project's partners. As a friendly and environmentally friendly alternative mode of transport, rollerblading is finally recognized in the new highway code of January 2004 and finds its place between pedestrians and cyclists. The project initiators show their intention to dedicate a day of recognition to it, just like for cycling (June 6) and the car-free day (September 22). "Let's Rollerblade" The Belgian rollerblading festival will span two days. Saturday, April 17, at the Roux sports complex and Sunday, April 18, at the Bois de la Cambre in Brussels. "Riders" can enjoy a host of activities from 10 a.m., such as initiation sessions, jumps, slaloms, speed skating, and free skating indoors. Wearing protective gear will be mandatory for those who want to try their hand at Hockey, Basket Roller, or Street-Course (located outside). It will also be possible to have your old rollerblades serviced at the repair stand. Several rides on the RAVeL network will start during the day, depending on the participants' level.
