To mark the ten-year reign of Albert II, the national holiday will take on a special character. Here are a few highlights of the program (1).
The festivities on Sunday, July 20 will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Egmont Palace with a classical music aperitif concert conducted by Dirk Brossé. The day will continue with several 'parades' on roller skates (from 11:30 a.m., Place Schuman), motorcycles (at 12:00 p.m. at the Atomium), and bicycles (at 12:30 p.m., Rue Ducale), not to mention the 'rollerstreetpark' (from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Prince Albert barracks). In the afternoon, the Cirque du Trottoir will brighten up Place Brueghel, and in the evening, a popular ball featuring Annie Cordy and Grand Jojo among others will get Place du Jeu de Balle swinging.
Throughout the day on July 21, visits will be organized at Parliament and federal museums, for example, as well as at the Bellevue Museum dedicated to the dynasty, which is dedicating a new room to the 'Profession of King': Albert II thus enters the museum during his lifetime, which is a first. For families, the two main meeting points are Brussels Park with its puppets, bouncy castles, and other attractions, as well as Egmont Palace, which from 3:00 p.m. hosts concerts and shows for children, such as the one by Christian Merveille. Finally, after the traditional military parade and before the fireworks display, the concert 'From Annie Cordy to Zornik' (Place Poelaert, from 7:45 p.m.) will be a highlight of this July 21. Among the invited Belgian artists: Philippe Lafontaine, Khadja Nin, Toots Thielemans, Urban Trad...
