Getting to know your neighbour over a drink, this 31 May in Mons
MONS — The Messines district, the parc du bois, the Épinlieu estate, the Allée des Oiseaux, the cité du Coq in Jemappes, the place de la Fraide in Cuesmes, the rue de l'Enseignement, the allée des Mélèzes, the rues des Géraniums and des Anémones…: all these places will take on a different look on 31 May. They will take part in Immeubles en fête.
For the second consecutive year, the city of the Doudou has said yes to the invitation of Carl de Moncharline, initiator of the operation at national level. Its aim is to allow those who live a few steps from one another every day to discover each other differently.
"Immeubles en fête is a state of mind, another way of living your city, says Carl de Moncharline. This event is an opportunity to develop conviviality and neighbourhood solidarity. It is an answer to isolation."
The role of the City of Mons is not to offer a turnkey party. It consists rather in giving residents the idea and the desire to get involved in the convivial life of their district. The aim is to encourage local citizens' initiatives. To this end, the prevention service but also the neighbourhood committees will be mobilised. Around a hundred associations in the municipality have likewise been made aware of the event so that it reaches as widely as possible.
On the day, between 6 and 10 p.m., residents will therefore gather around a drink with simplicity, conviviality, proximity and solidarity as watchwords. Everyone will have brought something to drink or eat. The posters and postcards for this festive evening will be very useful for inviting your neighbours! They can be downloaded at www.immeublesenfete.be. They can also be obtained from the city's prevention service, 31, rue des Hautbois (065/327871). "This time, all the neighbourhood committees will be part of the celebration. And no fewer than 50,000 copies have been printed. They have been available in bookshops since 5 May. We hope the event will grow in scale", explains the Mons coordinator.
