BRUSSELS — Thirteen volunteers from the Brussels police force are taking a crash course in roller-skating. The officers on wheels will be deployed on car-free day, escorting the 20 kilometres of Brussels and during the traffic-free weekends in the Bois de la Cambre. The inspiration for the initiative came from Paris. A 'grand premiere' for Belgium of officers on rollerblades: next Friday, as these sporting law-enforcers will also escort the weekly skating trips through the streets of Brussels. In July and August the City of Brussels organises a ride for skaters every Friday. If it does not rain, skaters gather at 8 pm on Place Poelaert for the start of a three-hour skate to the Halles Saint-Géry. (BAC)
