Throughout this summer, Tuesday evenings in Namur will be very lively. Several thousand people, roller skating enthusiasts, are expected to glide through the streets. The idea was successfully launched in the federal capital. That is where "Brussels rollers" was created. The idea is simple. One evening a week, the city streets are reserved for these sports enthusiasts. Success grew with each passing evening. Only rain has ever slowed down these roller skating lovers. A success that prompted organizers to revise their formula. "Belgium Rollers" will start in a few weeks and will make a stop each evening in a different city. On Tuesdays, it will be in the Walloon capital. A great opportunity to bring life to Namur. Police officers in training Namur as a host city cannot be improvised. The safety of participants must obviously be ensured. Namur police officers will therefore put on roller skates. Mr. Guy Jomaux, head of the Namur police force: "The police officers who will supervise this event are all volunteers. They are young and already assigned to traffic duty." Namur police officers will soon begin training. It will take place in one of the city's sports halls for police officers from the French-speaking cities participating in this tour (Liège and Mons). Hasselt, Ghent, Brussels, and Koksijde will be the other stops on this circuit. It remains to determine the route that will be proposed. A task that also falls to the Namur police. "The route should be about 20 km long. We need to showcase the attractive sides of the city," wishes Guy Jomaux. "Since such a gathering is likely to bring together a maximum number of people, we will be able to take major thoroughfares. In any case, this will not disrupt traffic, as the start will be given around 9 p.m."
