Promoting traffic for "soft" road users

MONS MOBILITY A series of activities are offered on the occasion of Mobility Week Starting today and until September 22, the City of Mons is participating in "Mobility Week". For the occasion, a series of organizations coordinated by the Department of Mobility have set up various initiatives. The highlight will be the "cyclo-roller parade" organized on Sunday, September 21, starting from the Grand-Place in Mons. The City is also taking part in the European day "A day without my car" on Monday, September 22. Thus, throughout the week, prevention campaigns are being conducted outside schools (see "In brief"). Respect for parking rules, speed control near school gates... the Road Safety Training Center, with the help of children, is placing mobile signs created around three specific road safety themes. It is also leading awareness actions with parents and children regarding pedestrian routes and child drop-off/pick-up safety. A "Fake Ticket" operation is also organized (info: 065/82.42.10). On Saturday, September 20, it's "Mobility in Celebration" in the Saint-Lazare district. Featuring bike school, bike outings, reduced-mobility simulation workshops, creative workshops, treasure hunts, circus technique activities, etc. (Info: Relais Picardie Laïque 065/84.73.22) We are all pedestrians This week will also be used for the "Think of the pedestrians that we all are" initiative launched by the Ghlin Institute for the Blind. From September 16 to 22 (except weekends), awareness actions regarding the visually impaired will be conducted, including the creation of a drop-off zone in front of their institute and the establishment of a good driver charter (Info 065/40.88.50). On Sunday, September 21, why not join the "cyclo-roller parade"? "To fully enjoy the last sunny days and taste the pleasure of strolling by bike or rollerblades on the boulevards and roads of Mons," as Alderman for Mobility Jean-Claude Carpentier puts it. The City of Mons, the Police, the Maison des Cyclistes de Mons, and the Belgium Roller Team have organized the 20-km ride. The initiative is also part of the "roller parade" tradition. Rendezvous from 2:00 PM on the Grand-Place; departure at 3:00 PM. For people without equipment, rollerblades can be rented on-site that day at 2:00 PM or bicycles on reservation (065/84.95.81). Finally, September 22 car-free day is back. This year it falls on a Monday and affects the "hyper town center" (see "In brief"). From 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, certain streets will be closed to motorists. Exemptions will be granted for TEC buses, emergency vehicles, etc. The objective of this operation is not to annoy motorists but "on the one hand to prioritize the movement of pedestrians, cyclists, and all those users now defined as 'soft users'. On the other hand, to raise public awareness about using alternative modes of transport to promote traffic flow in urban centers." (Info 065/40.43.41.) With such a program, it is impossible not to be at least made aware of the issue... : in brief OPERATION FAKE "TICKET" After stopping yesterday in Ghlin at the Saint-Louis and Barigand schools, the Road Safety Training Center will be outside the following schools: - Tuesday 16/09 in Mons (Ursulines Schools), in Harmignies and Villers-Saint-Ghislain. - Wednesday 17/09 in Mons (Canonniers and Ursulines Schools). - Thursday 18/09 in Obourg (Municipal School), at Arbre Vert (Chaussée du Roeulx), and at Canonniers School. - Friday 19/09 in Mons (Institut Saint-Luc and Arquebusiers School) and in Maisières (Municipal School). - Monday 22/09 in Quévy (Municipal School). : in brief NO ENTRY! On Monday, September 22, on the occasion of the "A day without my car" operation, motorists will not be allowed to drive through the following streets: rue de Nimy (from rue des Fossés), rue Neuve, rue des Clercs (up to the intersection with rue des Gades), rue d'Enghien (up to rue du 11 novembre and Tour Auberon), rue d'Havré (from rue Peine Perdue), rue du Miroir (up to rue des Fossés), Place du Marché-aux-Herbes, rue de la Clef, rue de la Coupe, rue Cronque, Grand-Rue and the entire pedestrian zone.
