HASSELT On Monday evening, the now traditional Rollerparade deviated from its normal route along the Groene Boulevard and the canal. This time, the skaters headed straight through the city center. There, they rolled past the decorations set up in the various neighborhood quarters ('rotten'). The people who had worked on their 'rot' for months were particularly pleased with the skaters' interest. 'Now that the Virga Jesse procession unfortunately doesn't visit our rot, this is certainly a good alternative,' say the Hasselt locals. For the skaters themselves, the ride was not without obstacles and teeth-grinding, as the cobbled sections and gentle slopes turned out to be tougher hurdles to overcome than they had initially expected. They even whizzed beneath the large poster of the Heilig Paterke. This man is used to a lot, but even this notable rot resident had never seen a whole swarm of roller skaters before.
