Discover the city on wheels

Photo caption: The Belgium Rollers initiative quickly grew into a success story. This summer, you can discover the center of eight cities on roller skates. Belgium Rollers started in Brussels in 2002 as a small-scale initiative. But an average of 6,000 participants was immediately noted. It was therefore a logical step for the roller parade to be extended to other cities the following year. This year, eight Belgian cities are participating. The parade runs from June to September. The 20 km tours always start in the city center. The police (also on wheels) provide supervision. This third edition pays special attention to Joseph Merlin. He developed the in-line roller skate 200 years ago in the city of Huy. To highlight this, Huy will organize various activities in June, July, and August. For instance, a sound and light show is planned for August 7. To ensure the roller parades run safely, a first aid (EHBO) team is on site. Protection is mandatory for children. A few more practical details: Meet every evening from 7 p.m. in the following cities: Hasselt (every Mon from 28/6 to 30/8), Ghent (every Wed from 30/6 to 25/8 - except 21 & 28/7), Namur (every Thu from 1/7 to 26/8), Brussels (every Fri from 4/6 to 24/9), Mons (every Sat from 3/7 to 28/8 - except 7/8 August), Huy: on 19/6, 7/8 and 25/9, Ostend (every Sun of the month of July) and Koksijde (every Sun of the month of August - with the exception of 8 & 15/8). www.belgiumrollers.com
