A legendary club on the harbour of Saint-Tropez, created in 1962 by the Malortigue brothers, Doudou and Frangy, on a plot bought by Edouard and François-Joseph Malortigue on their return from Indochina.

A legendary club on the harbour of Saint-Tropez, created in 1962 by the Malortigue brothers, Doudou and Frangy, on a plot bought by Edouard and François-Joseph Malortigue on their return from Indochina. Success was immediate: Claude François made his debut there, Brigitte Bardot danced the cha-cha-cha, and the crowd ranged from the Salut les Copains gang to Edgar Morin, Eddy Barclay, Françoise Sagan, Johnny Hallyday and Picasso. Frangy Malortigue, nicknamed « le Chinois » by the locals, kept the legend alive through the 1970s and added « les allongés », a small club for insiders. In the 1990s live bands gave way to DJs and the Papagayo became a venue of choice for these new figures of the night. The club has since given way to the restaurant-club Gaïo, run by Frankin Malortigue.
