TV Brussel: News — StudioLive Who's Who's Land, neighbourhood committee opposition
In 2001, a report by Erik Van Hoorick for TV Brussel highlights the neighbourhood committee's opposition to StudioLive (formerly Who's Who's Land). Jean Peeters, representing local residents, denounces wild parking, night-time noise and incivilities in the area. The cause is the neighbourhood's transformation: the former socialist mutual insurance building is being bought to be converted into luxury lofts. To accommodate these future residents, the City requires the club to insulate its room. Carl De Moncharline recalls that he was one of the first to renovate this area by rehabilitating a former theatre, opened at the time during Heritage Days. He points out that the forced 3 a.m. closure undermines his financial plan, preventing him from paying for the works. Police reports confirm that this simultaneous closure creates a sudden flow of hundreds of young people into the street, worsening the situation. Without a compromise, the club risked bankruptcy.
