1991 - « Truc-Troc »: Art Pool brengt de ruilkunst terug in de mode

On 13 December 1991, Le Soir published an article by Martine Duprez on Art Pool's "Truc-Troc": an artwork exchange fair where money and cheques are banned. Artists exhibit their works on the ground floor at 80 rue Gaucheret; upstairs, members of the public deposit objects and offers of services in exchange - a stay in the Drôme, a trip to Italy, gold coins, a Chinese rug, a weekly bouquet of flowers for a year.

The article recalls that Art Pool, an artists' cooperative founded in March 1990 by sculptor Mon De Rijck to democratise art, also offers an acquisition system of monthly instalments spread over five years. "In the long run, culture must be accessible to everyone. Everyone must be able to be part of the elite," says Mon De Rijck. Twenty years later, his son Carl De Moncharline would revive the idea of artistic barter with Truc-Troc.
